Aside from Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Aubrey Plaza, Barbra Streisand seems to be Joe's biggest celebrity crush. If he ever has ten minutes with her on the moon, he would like to have her sing songs from Yentl, but is concerned about the lack of sound in outer space. Lars explained to him that he could just have her sing with him during the preceding and/or ensuing rocket trips. This point seems to have been lost on him.
One of the ad reads for Mint Mobile included a reference to Joe wanting to drunkenly message Barbra Streisand his Yentl song covers.
Yentl gender ambiguity incident[]
In the first episode of the show, Joe brought her up during a hypothetical question. Unbeknownst to him, he had severely misunderstood the plot and circumstances of the film Yentl, believing Barbra to have been cast as a young Jewish boy. The boys later revisited the film and comically realized she was actually cast as a young Jewish girl, who was being passed off as a boy so she could study.
